Ka Bel’s Home

Ka Bel\'s Home

I could not sleep the night before this event. I woke up every hour and being the amateur photographer that I am, imagined what camera angles and compositions I should do to have a publishable photo. I was also worried that if I overslept, I would miss the event.

Although unintentional, I was pressured by Photo correspondent Niño Orbeta, who untiringly teaches me how to take good shots, to send photos that would not put him or the bureau in shame.

It was my first time as a photographer to cover such a big event. And while at it, I pretended to know what I was doing.

Out of more than a hundred shots, I decided this was my best.

Aside from realizing that I needed more practice in taking photos, I also realized how great a person Crispin Beltran was.

The overwhelming support of the people around him, including members of militant groups, showed that he has done things to deserve all these…

“If helping the poor is a crime and fighting for freedom is rebellion, then, I plead guilty as charged!”–Crispin Beltran (1933-2008 )
